Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has been threatening to sue
New-York-based news-agency Sahara Reporters over the Ekiti rigging
record, which the agency revealed.
Senator managed to get his New York-based lawyer to send a ‘warning
letter’ hoping to shut up the agency while he shops for corrupt Nigerian
senators to confirm his appointment as minister of senate for defense. Find the letter after cut
In this letter, Obanikoro admits that he was there at the meeting where the rigging plot took place.
Read his letter below:
“I represent Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and have read your and
Sahara Reporters’ false, disparaging, and defamatory statements
concerning Sen. Obanikoro. I also have no doubt that you are defaming
him through false and baseless statements made to third parties.
“For example, you recently stated during a February 14, 2015 “Sit
Out” that Sen. Obanikoro “has killed many people in Lagos state” and is
a “murderer.” According to my client, you simply have no factual basis
to make such an utterly baseless and incredible statement. Indeed, the
very fact that you would make such an outlandish statement evidences
your clear bias and that your “reporting” is merely propaganda for Sen.
Obanikoro’s political opponents.
“Furthermore, you recently reported on the Sahara Reporters
website that you have an audio recording of a purported meeting between
Sen. Obanikoro, Governor Ayo Fayose, Gen. Aliyu Momoh and others that
allegedly evidences that: (a) soldiers were paid with a “huge stash
cash” to rig an election in Ekiti; (b) Gen. Momoh was bribed “for his
assistance in carrying out election fraud in Ekiti”; (c) “Governor
Fayose revealed that he had already bribed an official”; (d) there was a
“forging of INEC ballots”; and (e) the military “prevented APC voters
from reaching the polls.” This is a complete fabrication and Sen.
Obanikoro vehemently denies participating in any conversations where
such issues were discussed.
“Additionally, even assuming the authenticity of the purported
recording and that it was not manipulated, there are no statements by
Sen. Obanikoro that substantiate your claims. Simply put, these alleged
statements are not heard on this audio and nothing on the audio supports
such purported claims. In fact, the audio is of an alleged vague
conversation concerning security for an election, not election rigging,
fraud or bribing officials. You clearly knew this fact when you reported
the abovc-rcfcrenced defamatory statements.
“I demand that you, Sahara Reporters and/or any entity under your
control immediately cease and desist from making any false and
disparaging statements about Sen. Obanikoro on the internet or to any
third party and immediately and publically retract the above-referenced
defamatory statements. If you fail to do so and continue your defamatory
conduct, my office will aggressively pursue all legal remedies against
you, Sahara Reporters and/or any entity under your control, including
commencing a defamation action against you wherein we will seek
substantial compensatory damages, punitive damages, sanctions and
attorney’s fees.
“The foregoing recitation and analysis of facts and law shall not be
construed to be an admission of any facts or legal conclusions. This
letter is not a delineation of all of the positions, claims, rights,
remedies, or defenses of my client, or of all of the facts involved, and
nothing contained herein shall be deemed to limit any of my client’s
rights or remedies, all of which are expressly reserved.”
